Steve McCurry (né en 1950) a commencé sa carrière de photojournaliste il y a plus de 30 ans lorsque, portant des vêtements du pays, il entre en Afghanistan par la frontière pakistanaise. Son travail lui a alors valu la médaille d'or Robert Capa décernée aux photographes ayant fait preuve d'un courage exceptionnel.
